Her 2018 PhD explored the use of open educational practices (OEP) in higher education. The potential benefits of open education are often considered in three areas: expanding access to education, enhancing pedagogy, and advancing equity. With a long history, open education gained increased attention in 2020 as educators responded to the Covid-19 pandemic. In April 2020, UNESCO called on the global community to support the use of open educational resources “with a view to building more inclusive, sustainable and resilient Knowledge Societies”. In a time when local and global inequalities have been exposed so dramatically, how can open educational resources and practices (OER and OEP) facilitate practical and equitable approaches to learning, teaching and assessment in our respective contexts?
